The Islamic State’s Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) has claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion in Kabul on 20 April. The attack targeted a vehicle carrying members of the Hazara minority community, killing the driver and injuring at least 10 others. ISIS-K made the announcement on Telegram, according to Agence France-Presse.
This follows a previous attack last month in Kandahar where ISIS-K targeted a branch of the New Kabul Bank with a suicide bombing, resulting in numerous casualties.
The Taliban’s Kabul security command spokesman, Khalid Zadran, previously reported that a magnetic mine explosion in Kota Sangi had killed the driver and injured three other civilians.
Despite the Taliban’s control over Afghanistan and their claims of having defeated ISIS-K, the group has remained active. They have claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks over the past three years. The ongoing violence underscores the fragile security situation in Afghanistan and the challenges faced by the Taliban in ensuring stability and safety for all citizens.
